Grateful for help and the for the ability to make small contributions

My friends Tom and Art from Minnesota stayed over for a long weekend visit. They and another couple had been planning to come to B’ham since May to experience Sidewalk and see Emmy Lou Harris with me and Mike. It wasn’t quite the visit we had planned, but I am glad they were able to come.

We didn’t see any film, but did go to the concert. Marley attended the concert, too, and she said that Mike was sitting next to her the whole time. Of course , Emmy Lou is a family favorite, so why should I be surprised?

It was nice that the kids could get to know Tom and Art and vice versa. It had been three years since we had seen each other last (with the exception of Tom coming to Mike’s memorial service, flying in and out in less than a 24-hour period).

I will be eternally grateful for their company and help–gathering food, cooking, helping me organize the home office, which had been torn upside down due to our home construction project, and getting a great start on the yard, which was huge and daunting and out of control. It is still huge and daunting and only slightly out of control now.

Was lucky enough to have other friends come and set up my clothespole and so some yardwork, too. I can’t thank anyone enough for their kindness.

I found a good use for many of Mike’s shoes; donated about 80 percent of them to a group that is doing an art installation on those killed in the Iraq war (military and civilian) . There is (?)/was a particular need for men’s shoes, so I think Mike would be happy that I passed those along to conribute to the exhibit. I am waiting to get more info about the exhibit and to find out whether the group needs more shoes and will post that information as soon as I get it.
